PREPARING FOR ADVENT- Join me for this Advent Devotional Series

Even as a Christ follower…

Sometimes, overwhelm of life circumstances, a strained or broken relationship, a loss of someone close, a battle with disease or health challenge, a deep-seeded contention with self-worth, or a conflict with past decisions can all leave us feeling lost in the shadows, especially during the holiday season.

Sometimes when a cloud of darkness and heartache looms.... Not even the nostalgia of seasonal family traditions can lift it.

Though these traditions and celebrations aren't inherently bad, what if we take off the sparkly rose colored glasses, given to us by our modern culture, and really look at the Christmas story?

{ADVENT DEVOTIONAL PREVIEW} The REAL "Magic" of Christmas

"It’s the most wonderful time of year!"

We’ll hear this lyric over and over throughout the Christmas season, alluding to the idea that Christmas is a “magical time” filled with joy, “good cheer” and “hearts glowing”. Our stores are filled with glitter and sparkle. We even adorn our churches with lights and beautiful glowing decor.

But, what if you struggle to feel the hope, peace, joy, and love so beautifully and "wonderfully" packaged in our present day church Christmas message?

CREATING HOLIDAY BOUNDARIES

Our hearts desire is to bring our gifts to the season of Christmas, but often misjudge our capacity and overextend ourselves. This misalignment is what causes our hearts to turn towards dread, sometimes blaming others or feeling alone in our “good" efforts.

So how do we approach such a joyous season and continue to maintain peace without stressing over what we think it “should” look like?

BOUNDARIES.

"We as nurturers of our home create a family culture of healthy rhythms and habits that influence generations. Being in God's Word is one of those important and healthy rhythms."
